Day 24: A View from the Sky

Published in

If you follow me on twitter or if you've heard me ramble before, then you know that traveling from Belarus (or to for that matter) isn't always easy.

First off, many times I can go places that Ales can't (without a visa) and vise-versa. So when we want to go to Germany Ales has to get a visa, which can be a long process in itself.

From there, we have to decide on the easiest method to get to Germany. We could take a train. Or a bus. But if we did that it would take about 2 days to get there.

The other option is to fly Ryanair. They are a super cheap airline in Europe, but sadly for us, Belarus won't allow them as they are too cheap : ) The closest Ryanair airport is in Lithuania, so all we have to do is get there.

Our journey begins early in the morning, as our bus leaves Minsk at 8:00am. We arrive in Vilnius about 1pm (an hour late of course : ) From there we leave about on a Marshootka (kind of like a communal taxi) and get to Kaunas around 3:45pm. Then we make our way to the airport. Our flight leaves at 6:20pm and we arrive in Frankfurt two hours later. (are you still listening to all this? If so, you're a better listener than me) Once in Frankfurt we have to take another hour long bus ride to Mainz, which is 20 minutes from our final destination. In Mainz, Ales' brother Igor picks us up, and that, is finally the end of the trip.

For now.

Aren't you so glad you know all the gory details?

Anyway, while in flight I managed to snap a few pictures and capture the gorgeous sunset.

Beautiful colors in this shot. Reading that entry was exhausting!
