Vanilla Sugar

Published in

Sugar with a hint of color and the scent of vanilla. Many European recipes call for vanilla sugar and in the States many people don't have it one hand. (they sell it in little packets here) So now you can make your own! This is a great way to use up a vanilla bean that you would normal just throw away. Plus it only takes a few minutes!

Lets get started!

You will need:

  • 1 whole Vanilla Bean, Used And Dried
  • 2 cups White Sugar

What to do:

Be sure the used vanilla bean sits out overnight to dry .

Put two cups of sugar and the vanilla bean in a food processor and blend for a couple minutes until bean is in small chunks. You can remove the bean pieces and throw or you can let it sit with the sugar until you use it.

Add the sugar to recipes, to coffee, or as a topping. It makes a great addition and of course helps your leftover beans not go to waste. Enjoy!

Carine, you certainly could! I have done that in the past : ) Here they sell vanilla sugar already made. This recipe is a great use of a leftover bean. (and of course I understand not being able to get them somewhere - I snagged mine in the States : ))

Hope you enjoy!

Can I use vanilla powder instead of vanilla bean? and just mix it with white sugar? vanilla bean is very expensive in our country!
